Look at the mini movie with the sound off. How well do you think these people know each other? What kind of conversation are they having? Write down your ideas. Then listen to find out how much you managed to guess.

Emily:Andrew, why did you have to ea-, leave so early last night?
Andrew:Uh well, OK, you guys know how my parents are, so like they set a curfew and it’s … I like I feel bad leaving so early. Like it’s only 8 o’clock so I’ve only seen you guys for like an hour, and then I just have to go already. So, I mean like – If it’s a weekend you guys know that I can stay out later, but on school days I just can’t. I just won’t be able to see you guys for as much.
Sidney:Do you feel like it’s different from when you’ve started high school? Cause I know especially since … here – when you turn 18 – everyone thinks that you are like a form of an adult so they give more responsibility and everything. Have you felt a difference or no?
Andrew:Not really, like, my curfew, OK … well. OK. When I, when I was a little bit younger I used to be able to stay out until like 6 or 7 o’clock, so it’s not like I’ve gained a huge amount of time.
Jacquelyn:6 or 7?!
Sidney:6 o’clock?!
Andrew:Yeah.
Emma:That’s so early.
Andrew:It’s, it’s really early, yeah. And it’s not like I have to always get home so early, like when it’s a weekend or if like my grades are good, like if I’m doing well in school, then I can stay out later, but … for the most part, it’s usually …
Emily:What happens if you are out past curfew?
Andrew:Uhm … They’ll lock the doors and I’ll end up sleeping in my car for the night, so –
Emma:Oh, my gosh!
Andrew:Yeah. So it’s nice now that I have like a spare key, but … uhm, for the most part, if I’m more than five minutes late, the doors will be locked and so will the windows.
Emma:The windows!
Andrew:Yeah …
Jacquelyn:You can’t even sneak in.
Andrew:No, I can’t sneak in, so … it’s rough.
Sidney:What about you, Jacque?
Jacquelyn:Uhm, my parents don’t really care, like on school nights they’ll tell me to come home, but on the weekends I’m usually sleeping over at someone’s house anyway. So I usually can just stay out. They … trust me enough, that I’ll make my own decisions.
Andrew:That’s nice. Must be nice being able to stay out that late … I wouldn’t know.
Sidney:Not getting the doors locked on you.
Jacquelyn:Getting locked out of your own house.
Andrew:Yeah.
Emma:I think it makes a difference how old you are, because … my mom … my cur- … my mom gave my curfew … uhm … 10.30 on week- … weekends or … weekdays and 1 o’clock on weekends, and my sister is a Freshman and she has like 9 o’clock curfew, no matter what. So I think it depends wh-, how old you are.
