Write down five different ways people can express their feelings. Then listen to Emma talking
about what she does.

Erm … I … started kind of singing at a young age, at about maybe six. I was just kind of singing around the house, just kind of singing generally … A-, and like I used to sing in front of my family, and just make up little songs and do little performances in front of m-, f- erm … in front of my family and stuff like that. And as I grew up I started to, my voice started to develop a bit more as I matured as well. So … yeah, and singing means a lot to me, because it’s … like, it’s really, it’s got like emotion to it and whenever I sing a certain song, you can bring, like, your own, like, emotion to it. You can even bring, like, sadness or … like … like if it’s an emotional song you’d be sad and if it’s not an emotional song you make … make it … ha-, happy, I guess, yeah.

Erm … well, singing is something that I’m really passionate about, but that’s not something I want to do. I would either want to be a primary school teacher or work with social work, so working with children is something that I’m really interested in. Yeah.

Many people in southeastern England do not pronounce the t in the middle or at the end of words. In the old days it was mostly Londoners who spoke Cockney English who did this. Now there’s a new form of English called Estuary English where the t’s are also dropped. It’s called Estuary English because it started in the area around the River Thames.
