Do you find it easy to get up in the morning on a school day? Does it make a difference which subjects you have that day? Think about this for a minute, then watch the mini movie about Alexander who goes to school in Norwich.

Alexander:Erm … I’ll wake up about 7.15 and er, smash my alarm until it’s about half past seven. Erm … I’ll wake up, I’ll … erm have … I’ll get changed, have breakfast … erm … I’ll miss the bus! Get … I’ll get my mum to er pick me up, and my friend. We’ll get to school … erm … and we have about fi- ten minutes of school. And then for our – School starts at 8.35, our first lesson is at 8.55. No, yeah. Our first- I’ll say 8 … at 8.35 and our Form is at 8.25 … erm …
Lindis:You said your Form is at 8.25. What is that?
Alexander:Our er … basically … er, there- It’s like our school group. So er there’s 25 people in each Form with one teacher, and er that Form is assigned a room each year. Erm … mo- most of the time it’s the same, but our Form Tutor … erm … is on maternity leave, so we got another one in another room. Erm, and then … Yeah, so we just basically get assigned the teacher for the rest of the year, erm … rest of the year … school years.
Lindis:But what do you do for those 10 minutes every morning?
Alexander:Erm, we’ll sit down, we’ll have a register taken, to make sure that we are actually here, erm, and then for the rest of the 10 minutes we’ll read out announcements, I’ll read out what I had from the last School Council meeting and then … go to the next lesson.
Lindis:OK. So how many lessons do you have per day?
Alexander:Five … yeah, five.
Lindis:And when do you finish your school day?
Alexander:Three o’clock.
Lindis:What’s your favourite subject?
Alexander:Drama!
Lindis:Tell me about it.
Alexander:Er … Drama is where you get taught how to act within situations, so there are like freeze frame or things where you have to act like a … a huge, er horrible disaster is about to happen. You have to freeze frame just before it and freeze frame after it. Things like that. So you learn how to act basically.
Lindis:So, do you put on plays at school?
Alexander:Er … I have done a play before, that was last year. Erm, but that wasn’t wi- with my er, Drama. That was just someone who set it up, doing it at our school. But I have, er, yeah ... We do set up plays quite a lot.
Lindis:What was the play you were in last year?
Alexander:Er, it was called “Looking Back, Looking Forward”. Er, there were 7 scenes. Erm ... the first scene was us in year 3, second – and it goes up until our last years and the last scene is like a reunion when we’re all 30. So, that was quite fun. The make-up was really fun.
Lindis:Yeah.
Alexander:I looked really old after that which I thought was quite rude.
